The long awaited junior internship has been slowly climbing up the calendar and now the date is finally in view. At the beginning of the year the idea of being able to participate in such a venture was very exhilarating. At the same time, however, finding one was a daunting task. Especially since I was uncertain as to what field I wanted to explore. Even though I had set up an internship relatively early, it still felt as if it was a goal long awaited for.
For my internship I am hopping onto a plane and traveling to Washington State. Specifically to Grandview where Michael Akins, my mentor, worked as a detective for eleven years and now as a police officer. Not many details have been presented on what exactly I will be doing, but I have been told it will be a very informative adventure. Criminology and criminal psychology have been subjects I have been interested in for a long time, but have never found a way to fully understand what those fields are like. This internship has allowed that opportunity so I am excited to learn anything I can and I can honestly say that the excitedness outweighs any nervousness to the point of near non-existence.
